Bio
Born in Boston, MA, JP Long began studying illustration at an early age, laying the foundation for his learned appreciation of aesthetic, and his powerful creative skill.
Under the tutelage of Emily White, a local seacoast New Hampshire painter, JP's vision and technique formed. However, it was not until he began working towards his Jewelry/Metal Arts degree from the California College of Art and Crafts, that JP's true vision and technique matured. After graduating with an impressive portfolio, JP opened a jewelry studio in Berkeley, CA, creating a limited line of bracelets and rings that were soon showcased at Sculpture to Wear Gallery in Santa Monica, CA and Grennon's of Newport, in Newport, Rhode Island.
Bella Feldman, the prominent and critically acclaimed Bay Area sculptor, hired JP to assist in the creation of her work in the fall of 2000, and continues to employ his expertise. JP soon began his own work in glass and steel, and during the summer of 2002 was the featured artist at Salbabida Art Space in Berkeley, CA. Based upon natural tensions between opposing harmonies, JP's mixed media also showed in the 2002 Craft Showcase at The Museum of Craft and Folk Art in San Francisco, CA, and the Session I 2003 Faculty Show at Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington.
JP Long's current exhibition elaborates the dynamic fluidity and rigidity of the opposing materials, glass and steel.
