Bio
Formed from steel and glass, JP Long’s distinctive sculptures capture the serendipitous behavior of matter in motion. Influenced by modernist geometry, but characteristically drawn to a minimalist aesthetic, Long’s sculptural work evokes imagery inspired by naturally occurring events such as energy, force and magnetism. Long’s Oxidation series, which explores the manipulated reaction of iron oxides to various element treatments, perhaps most literally resembles familiar occurrences; however, it is his play on atmosphere, volume and pressure, which give these bodies of work their extraordinary compositional design. By combining references between nature, tension and movement, Long effaces associations with time and place.
Born in Boston, MA, JP Long currently resides in Oakland, CA. He is represented by Fine Art Galleries in Chicago, Dallas, San Franciso, Palm Desert and Toronto.
